Campolattaro Dam – Lots 1 and 2
Italy
2023 | ONGOING
Ghella is involved in the first two of the three lots promoted by the Campania Region for the design and construction of the infrastructure required to utilise water from the Campolattaro reservoir for drinking water supply and to upgrade the water distribution network serving the Benevento area. The project forms part of the seven strategic national initiatives included in Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and centres on one of the largest reservoirs in central and southern Italy. Originally designed in the 1960s, the reservoir remained unused following completion of the works in the mid-1990s, except for flood control purposes. Once the works have been completed, water will be abstracted from the reservoir through an aqueduct system capable of supplying drinking water to more than twenty municipalities in the Benevento area. The project will also provide the water resources required to supply additional aqueduct systems across Campania, supporting the region’s long-term goal of achieving water self-sufficiency.
Benefits
1. Improved drinking water supply for more than 2.5 million people.
2. Irrigation of approximately 15,000 hectares of agricultural land.
